Genre: Drama

Just love how Zainab (Uzoamaka Anuinoh) continued to love her mother in-law, Hajiya (Ummi Baba-Ahmed) irrespective of the latter’s nonchalance and ill-treatment towards her after the demise of her husband.

Zainab’s resilience and determination to carve a way at survival when faced with so many daunting challenges is super impressive.

Love how she stayed true to her passion without easily succumbing to the love advances made by Rayyan (Caleb Richards).

Uzoamaka’s interpretation of her role was super believable that initially I had thought she was indeed from Hausa. In fact, all the actors did great. Quite some natural acting there.

Now, while this was indeed interesting, engaging and entertaining to watch, I however feel that for how Hajiya maltreated Zainab, some more screen time would have been given towards their reconciliation and forgiveness.

Also, what was that design Zainab took to Rayyan for a photo shoot? It wasn’t eye-catchy in my opinion. Plus, when her sister Nene (Michelle Dede) mentioned she used to be a fashionista, I was hoping to see a reveal of how much she had changed as expressed by her sister who felt disappointed.

I was expecting some flashbacks of Zainab without all the hijab and in a different element. Maybe I missed that part

Zainab also appeared to have carried the same hairdo throughout the movie in which she was seen to have carried a pregnancy from early months to full term until three (3) years later.

It’s possible she always had that exact style of all-back cornrows but it looks like the exact same one. A flop in the makeup which went really well in other areas by the way.

Regardless, this was absolutely interesting to watch. A different not so different story from this side of Nollywood.

Verdict: 6/10
