Love can make people do stüpid things! But THIS right here is NEXT LEVEL STÜPID!!! Haba Amanda!!!
So, a friend recommended this movie a while back and oh my! I’m here to say thank you
I’m kinda pissed at the storyline (in a good way) cos it’s absolutely relatable even though after watching this, it left me with mixed feelings of disappointment in the woman and the fact that I loved the movie for how it highlighted on a salient societal and family matter.
I know a good friend for the advice they give! What kind of friend was the one in this film, bayi?
Plus what kind of a person takes advice from their friend hook, line, sinker? Like she nor get her own sense ni???
Anyways, please forgive my rants…!
Synopsis: (MAY contain spoilers)
Joy (Omeche Oko) lives with her sister Amanda (Blessing Obasi-Nze) and her husband Tony (Kelechi Udegbe) together with their two kids, Jason and Bibi.
The couple are devout Christians. However, Tony cannot seem to put a leash on his third leg so much so that he makes passes at Joy, initially sneaking into her bedroom at night, touching her whilst asleep.
At first, Joy wasn’t too sure what happens, believing it to be a dream till she confirmed it was real and that her Uncle has been visiting her at night.
Joy would then report to her sister raising her fears and concerns.
But the sister after taking lectures of ridiculous pieces of advice from her friend, Ngozi (Seleye Fubara) would start to gaslight Joy and act in a way that would then make things spiral out of control in a bid to “keeping her marriage” massaging and fanning her husband’s ego in the process.
Tony would eventually violate Joy at knife point disvïrginning her. Osim “Joy don’t be a joy kïller!”
What would later happen to Joy? What would become of Amanda’s marriage? Will it remain intact or will she continue to take lectures from her friend on “How to run my home 101!”?
Why not check this movie out to find out! Not sure you’ll be needing some popcorn cos you may be too upset as I was to get those past your mouth!
Indeed, “sometimes we’re so desperate to protect things that do not really matter and end up losing the ones that matter the most!”
Some women are so obsessed with the title “Mrs” that they lose their sense of reasoning. I guess it’s how they view single mothers and unmarried women.
While, I’m not promoting dïvorce or broken marriages, there are certain grounds that are justifiable enough.
This movie produced by Blessing Obasi-Nze herself portrays a really sensitive aspect of family drama.
Loved the angle from which this was expressed. I know it’s drama but this seems to be someone’s reality and how much they still live with the trauma.
It also highlights on how much blame society puts on the victim. See, in as much as I often advise and advocate decent dressing from our ladies, a rapïst is a rapïst!
Take a look at India for instance. With all the Saris that the women adorn themselves with, India is among countries with the highest räpe cases in the world.
Shockingly, a survey in an article showed South Africa, Bangladesh and some other countries to be among the highest (The Business Standard, 2020).
This was educational and eye-opening. It could be a trigger and/or re-traumatising for victims, hence, viewers’ discretion is advised.
The picture quality and sound were really good. However, some of the actors like Joy’s fashion design trainer and the doctor weren’t so good. But the others did a great job especially Omeche Oko and Blessing Nze.
Also, just when I thought they had spared us the details from the räpe scene which I was super pleased with, boom! They decided to do a flash back which was ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY
Maybe to clear doubts from viewers but the stupïd guy already admitted even though padded with lies
The duration was equally too long! Nevertheless, it was a good watch.
I’ll give this a 6.5/10!
Have you seen this? What did you think?
