MY TAKE:
This is a movie about co-parenting and the challenges that come with it when both or either decides to re-marry. Acting was good especially from Bolaji and Osereme. Duration was impressive, story is refreshing and the title just as apt!
picture quality, sound and location were all amazing.
Be that as it may, I find the plot rather unrealistic, unbelievable and not very compelling, in my opinion.
Firstly, are there really chicken-hearted men like Lolu as interpreted by Saga?
I found myself loathing his character in this film; like guy, what’s up with you nau?
“Can you just man up and be a man for once!”
Honestly, I didn’t find that part of the film very believable or realistic. Well, I guess, there are men like that though!
Secondly, Bami as portrayed by Osereme was calm and I loved it but it seems the writer of the story just deliberately made everyone around Vera subjected to her excesses in a very unnatural way. That was rather annoying.
Thirdly, I think this part got me vexed the most. The arrangement by Vera to go stay with her ex and his fiancee just to be able to vet her enough to find her worthy for her daughter was rather upsetting. Like, is Vera a mother-in-law or something?
Who does that?
Fourthly, I know this our Gen-Alpha kids in this era say things like they are already adults. They however say them in a child-like manner regardless. Princess was given a script to interpret Katy the little girl here. In my opinion, most of the lines were beyond her age scope or category. I guess they wanted to pass her off as smart, but that didn’t give me the vibe of a smart kid. It was instead inappropriate for her age especially with the delivery too.
Fifthly, we ever only saw Bami typing on her laptop as a writer which is commendable. Apart from that, we never saw Vera in her element, doing her job which was given as the reason for the split with Lolu; neither did we see Lolu in a work environment. Well, it’s a domestic drama. Nevertheless, those office or workplace sceneries would have added some more layers to the dynamics of the movie if you ask me.
Conclusively, this was interesting to watch due to the cast selection but I believe that a cross section of individuals may see the plot from my perspective or maybe not. We see things differently. So that’s absolutely fine. Not expecting movies to be a hundred percent real life, but for a drama, the core or focal point should be at least relatable.
