“The Accident” a Spanish Mexican telenovela follows the chaos and upheavals which bedevilled a group of families whose lives were hitherto going relatively smooth and sweet until an unfortunate occurrence happened during the birthday party of Rodrigo, the son of Emiliano and Daniella Lobo.
The accident which occurred as a result of a bouncing castle which wasn’t correctly/properly set up and nailed to the ground consequently ousted by a violent gust of wind with a bunch of kids playing in it, would then claim the lives of three children including Rodrigo’s, while one girl, Paula (the daughter of Daniella’s brother) would be missing.
Someone has to be blamed for such negligence, right? The question is WHO?
On the one hand is Moncho, the family’s gardener/domestic staff who was sneaking to consume some alcohol whilst setting up the bouncing castle.
And on the other hand is Emiliano, a lawyer and Moncho’s boss who was hoping to close a 40-million dollar deal on that same day and was then anxiously expecting an all-important call from the gringos together with his two other business associates.
Emiliano asks Moncho to go get ice for the party and that he’ll finish off setting up the bouncing castle by himself which he never did cos just as he held the hammer to nail the stakes into the ground, the all important call came in thereby leaving the job unattended to go answer the call with his friends.
Now, who will take the FALL for the devastating loss? Moncho or Emiliano?
Why not grab your popcorn (maybe a truckload worth). You’ll be needing it after the tension of the first episode as the rest of the other 9 episodes witness twists and dramatic turns of events.
While there are certain loose ends here and there, this series was however highly engaging, emotional, relatively relatable, suspenseful, intriguing, entertaining and mind blowing. I particularly enjoyed it.
Great lesson to learn in the line of “in life, some things are just more important than others!”
Yes, Emiliano and his friends successfully sealed the 40-million dollar deal but in the end, the money meant nothing as he had a huge personal loss to bear and the guilt of the demise of the other kids upon his shoulders!”
We just have to learn to set our priorities right as what will be will eventually be! They still would have sealed the deal had he ignored the call, fix the bouncing castle and ring them back later on.
Looking at it from a different angle though, that wind was strong to have been able to uproot the castle even if it was secured to the ground
The best bet would have been to tie it against a strong pillar or base
I find that this was fast paced as there were no dull moments. But I do have some questions:
Firstly, how were those people able to stand idly by and watch with indifference while Charo, one of the men who lost his son in the unfortunate accident, set Moncho’s house on fire with his two kids inside?
Secondly, for a woman who just lost her son, how was Daniella able to return back to work as a Police Officer within such a short time? Well, let’s just say people mourn and deal with pain differently, right?
Thirdly, Charo as the abuser and wife-beater that he is, made his wife walk bare-footed for a long distance from their house. This was a horrible and highly condemnable thing to do. I was absolutely gutted.
However, how come she had bloöd all over her legs by the time she got home? Did she walk on thorns?
Fourthly, when Charo made an attempt to mürder Lucia (Emiliano and Daniella’s daughter), he shot at her in the house (thankfully, he missed) as she managed to escape with the help of his son Alex. How did Daniella not see bullet holes in their house?
Fifthly, the end of the series sort of left some more questions unanswered. Is this a hint at a second season? If so, when? Few written lines at the end of the series explaining the whereabouts of David Matamoros for Carla (the journalist) who was searching for him as well as Javier who wanted to go to the doctors to undo his vasectomy and Brenda who was trying for another baby after losing Mateo to the accident would have done the trick. Will there be another season?
Personally, I was thrilled…elated to see Daniel Ponce (Erik Hayser) from Telemundo’s “For Love and Justice” in the 6th episode of this series. Do you remember him?
One is made to believe that he once had an affair with Daniella in the past. I was sooooo looking forward to a flashback of a time showing both of them as an item coupling together. But I was disappointed
This was a typical telenovela with hardly any new aspect to it. Pretty much same old storyline and intense dramatic moments. It stereotyped the black Mexicans as the poor lower class and exalted the whites.
The series sort of balanced between teenage juvenile delinquents in Lucia and her friends and also level-headed Alex to show that kids can always end up being different from their parents in their attitudes and approach to life.
It ‘monsterised’ the male folks as women-beaters
(Charo). True, but this has been overused. Women torment men too. Thankfully, this was subtly highlighted in the character of Yola (Moncho’s wife). She made life miserable for Moncho.
I’m glad that this did not bring on the overly utilised amnesia tool in telenovelas. For that, I specifically applaud the screen writers and producers.
Although the storyline and plot is not new, this was worth every minute of my time. It was enjoyable! Lovely casts with natural interpretation of roles. It’s binge-worthy
I’ll give this a 7/10.
Have you seen this? What did you think
