This film titled “Our neighbour has gone mad again” released on the 2nd of August, 2025 is written by Biodun Stephen, directed by Olubunmi Akingbola, produced by Olubunmi Dare and Executively produced by Omolabake Gbadamosi & Biodun Stephen herself. With a runtime of 1hour 40minutes, this comedy drama is currently available for streaming on the latter’s YouTube channel with same name.
SYNOPSIS: (MAY contain spoilers)
When her neighbour Mr. Mewolaka Mekusi (played by Obatide Kelvin) would always find the slightest chance to embarrass, bully, intimidate & harass her, her staff, guests & casts, Mrs. Biodun Stephen (portrayed by Bolaji Ogunmola) a filmmaker would have to devise a means to put paid to his excesses.
MY TAKE:
First impression I got from this movie is that it is a direct advertising of the producer, her YouTube channel and her other movies on YouTube. Besides the fact that the dialogues became excessively repetitive just few minutes in thereby becoming overly monotonous and tiring over time, we actually didn’t need a whole movie to show us what we already know as per the deliberate display of the posters and thumbnails of the producer’s past movies. This may equally be a turn off for a new viewer or potential subscriber, in my opinion.
Furthermore, the story though highly exaggerated (perhaps for the sake of the genre), comes off to me as a personal story of the producer. Please don’t get me wrong, this isn’t something to fault. However, it would have been more appealing to a viewer like myself if an entirely different name had been adapted rather than the direct use of ‘Biodun Stephen’ as interpreted by Bolaji Ogunmola being the lead character who is also a producer herself. That was distracting throughout.
If this was intended to be a memoir (autobiography) of some sort, it should have been done differently which I’d have appreciated. Quite alright there was a disclaimer at the start of the movie but this became contradictory to about half of the content of the film with the use of exact names. Moreso, actor Daniel Lloyd appeared as himself (a cameo by the way). And I ask WHY. His role bearing his name added nothing to the story especially after such disclaimer.
True there are neighbours who would frustrate the living daylight out of an occupant of an apartment or building but for how it was depicted here, it didn’t make sense if I’m being honest. It felt like a childsplay.
Should we even talk about the title of the movie? The title initially was confusing as the film progressed until the plot twist. If you ask me, in that regard, the title should have been “Our Landlord has gone mad again” this way, the twist would have blended well into the story.
For a comedy, I can’t remember any part that made me smile or even so much as chuckle nor giggle…not even a haha! It was disappointing as I was prepared to laugh even though I wasn’t expecting much. The story, the plot, the direction, the execution all felt like a piece from a primary school drama project. No offence.
The ending is even more annoying. Throughout as the movie unfolded, the aura passed by Biodun was that she’s wealthy, I know she had only been in the apartment for 6 months but to avoid all the harassments, wouldn’t it have been best she relocated to a more befitting work environment? See, there were lots of inconsistencies in this film. I’m not even going to go further. Although I managed to finish it, I’m however gutted.
Be that as it may, I’ll give it to Obatide Kelvin who played the crazy neighbour Mr. Mewolaka. He’s a good actor and without mincing words, he acted beyond the character he was given. I could tell he’s talented and was only acting based on the material available to him in this film. I would love to see him in other projects in a more suited role.
CONCLUSION:
In the nutshell, this movie didn’t do it for me. I get it that we all have different tastes in movies as many will find that this movie is their best comedy yet. In my candid opinion, I’d rather the budget for this had been channelled into a movie more worth the while. I mean, what is worth doing is worth done well, right? Again, if they wanted to promote the producer’s channel, it should have been done directly without the need for an ENTIRE MOVIE!
VERDICT: 2/10
