So I got a sponsored ticket to go see this movie recently. While I wasn’t particularly impressed with its overall outcome especially from the beginning where everything seemed to have been happening all at once, I’m pleased kids would find it spectacularly fascinating and interesting.

Now, that’s the catch!

It’s a movie designed for kids. It’s not meant to make much sense to the overthinking adults like myself who has tonnes of bills to pay and kids who are ever eagerly taking the next big trip to La La Land or expecting some McDonald treat.

While this movie had a budget of about $150million, it has now accumulated well over $800million at the Box Office! So, you see, happy days for the story writer Allison Schroeder (and others), Jared Hess (the director), producer Mary Parent (amongst others) as well as actors Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks and a host of others.

Synopsis: (MAY contain spoilers) 🚨

Steve (Jack Black) is a former doorknob salesman who as a child has always had dreams of creating a world of his own till he somehow found himself in the ‘Overworld’ which has an opposite evil world ‘The Nether’

Garret (Jason Momoa) known as the garbage man is a struggling game shop owner. Recently orphaned creative brain Henry (Sebastian Hansen) and his overprotective older sister Natalie (Emma Myers) together with their realtor/mobile zoo keeper Dawn (Danielle Brooks) would then somehow cross paths with Garret.

All four, by teleportation find themselves in the Overworld having to build a safe haven and also fighting off some zombie looking creatures. They also find Steve who was hitherto captured in the ‘Nether’ by the evil witch!

Will they all make it back to the real world alive? Now, why not book your ticket together with your kids or friends and family to go see this fantasy film with a runtime of 101minutes.

MY TAKE:

The movie took off on a note where it felt all over the place. An adult like me who isn’t into gaming or the likes would easily get bored. But kids would love it as mentioned earlier.

Though there were plenty of dumb scenes that would seemingly reduce one’s IQ, there were however enough humorous moments to make you forgive the flops. Again, its target audience is kids…so let’s stick to that!

The cinematography, green screen and CGI animations were a spectacle to behold! The minds of the creators of this, turning a game to a film is one I find intriguing.

I loved seeing Dennis the wolf; quite remarkable and metaphorical for lovers of furry creatures. It’s an easy watch, hence my rating above.

Have you seen this? What did you think? 🤔
