In a rather somewhat unlikely situation that your sister and wife have both been coincidentally diagnosed with kidney failure and are both at the verge of death.
Imagine that in both families, it is only your kidney (as brother and husband respectively) that is compatible to save either of them being that they also both share same blood group.
Now, you can only donate your kidney to save either your wife or your sister! What will you do? Who will you save? Your wife or your sister?
Such was the dilemma of Kelvin (portrayed by James Gardiner) in this Ghallywood movie titled “Fear Women!” Produced & directed by Kobi Rana.
The big reveal (plot twist) in this film, you won’t see it coming! I didn’t
Why not grab your popcorn and munch along! Need I forewarn you that at some point, you’d have a jaw-dropping moment!
My Take:
Firstly, I loved that Kelvin’s PA in the movie is a man. This is in sharp contrast to most movies that features females as secretaries or PAs.
Secondly, I also appreciate the fact that the therapy session was not the closed-door type where the therapist sits down with a patient/client and hauls questions at them. They both were having a stroll in a very serene and confidential environment.
I loved Kelvin’s mum’s vibes (portrayed by Kalsoume Sinare). It’s been a while I saw that lady in a movie. She did great! I could feel every emotion she displayed. I loved the fact that this was directed to reflect some modern social media viral trends.
Thirdly, I loved that this was a movie told from the angle of a man as opposed to many that seem to address issues that mostly put women as the victims.
Be that as it may, this movie, though interesting, engaging, captivating, intriguing and entertaining, it leaves certain loose ends that would have made it a major hit cos it highlighted some very salient issues that has predominantly bedevilled marriages in the last decades or so!
The movie had a really good storyline but the theatrics in the end, nearly ruined the entire experience. The fight scene at the pool side. Was that meant to bring some action to the drama?
I honestly wish that part had been left out cos it then exposed the flaws in the injury details. Someone had been stäbbed yet he ran outside with no blood dripping down on his white singlet vest! How???
The writers of this story, producer and director created the dilemma in this movie to establish or create a scenario as expressed in the opening statement of this review. However, what are the odds that in real life, this can actually happen?
It’s pretty much like those random questions we see on social media which intentions are to spark conversations/engagement along the line of “your mother and daughter are drowning and you are to save one. Who do you save?
Or, “your wife and son are trapped in a building on fire, who will you save first? kinda questions. I guess those type of circumstances are not often planned for in real life. Well, this is a drama…
Furthermore, many a time, Kelvin’s wife, Bella (played by Salma Mumin) was seen sleeping with heavy makeup on. On some of the occasions, I could easily excuse her on the basis of the circumstances (say for instance, she got drunk and slept off). However, it was so much so that in nearly all the scenes of her sleeping, she had full-on makeup! Who does that?
On the whole though, this was a good watch! It got me emotional at some point and made me shed a few tears…not kidding! Big ups to Kobi Rana who by the way also starred as Kelvin’s PA in the film. I didn’t like that hair he had though
The actors did great too.
