Accidentally Us – A Performance that could have been betterScore 48%Score 48%

With story & screenplay by Akpan Chioma Nsemeke, this movie titled “Accidentally Us” is directed by Chidi Anyanwu Chidox and produced by Uchenna Mbunabo. With a runtime of 2hours 10minutes, the family drama-comedy is currently streaming on the producer’s YouTube channel with same name.

SYNOPSIS: (MAY contain spoilers)

When Amarachi ‘Amara’ (Omeche Oko) ‘accidentally’ falls pregnant by play boy Jason (Clinton Joshua), given the moral standards of their parents, they’ll have to ‘accidentally’ get married. The question begging for answer, “will they accept to be man & wife?”

STORY/PLOT:

The story though not new is one which is predictable albeit you’d find yourself intrigued to know how things will play out especially given the actors selected to play the characters. The plot is set lighthearted with sprinkles of humour immersed in some funny lines that would make you giggle at some point or smile at some others. However, this comedy doesn’t quite hit the laughter spot for a viewer like myself as the progression and sequencing is not particularly fantastic.

PERFORMANCE:

The first thing that grabs your attention to click and watch this film is the choice and blend of actors here. Omeche Oko delivered but not as was expected. There were times when she was caught laughing which felt off-script.

I mean given the comic & clever interpretation of her characters in movies like “Unguarded” by Blessing Obasi-Nze, “Three’s a Match” by Uchenna Mbunabo, “After 25” by Uche Jombo and many more, one is relaxed that you’ll have a good ride but sadly it isn’t so in this one. I guess the pairing didn’t quite pan out as well as we had excitedly hoped for in my opinion.

Clinton Joshua appeared to have been holding back on his role delivery here and this eventually rubbed off on Omeche. It’s possible she didn’t want to appear to overshadow his role delivery hence the resultant effect on hers. Ultimately, this then affected the overall performance and consequently wasn’t as enjoyable. Nevertheless, certain audiences would find this to be their best comedy yet.

Ralph Ikechukwu Edu who played Mr. Uche as Amara’s father did an amazing job for the first part of this film till the later end when it appears that his confidence on-screen seemed to have wavered a bit. Loved how he interpreted the disappointed loving father initially.

It was amazing to see Solomon Akiyesi here as he played Mr. Martins (Jason’s father). It’s been a while. Loved his performance in “Pretty Liars”

My best character in this film is Zara (Amara’s friend) played by Sandra Osei Nti. Oh my! She’s a screen goddess! I knew straight up she’s Ghanaian – her accent (lovely), her skin tone (to die-for), her height (oh boy!)…she’s a diva, gorgeous! Would love to see her in other projects. Though her acting still needs some brushing! She’s a diamond in the rough.

DIRECTION:

The film took an easy route in directing. The first act was not so exciting. The second act was manageable. Then the third act became like the first – just there! Overall, directing is average.

CREW:

Hair & makeup here were not impressive. What was all that hair Omeche kept wearing? Or should I talk about the lipstick? Or her outfits? I guess the costumier is new to the job. Omeche’s appearance here was not exactly her usual one – it was not flattering at all. She looked different – in a strange way! The make-belief baby bump here in this day and age when silicone bumps are available was disappointing. What was that camera angle at scene with time frame 1:47:11? That was not necessary.

OUTCOME:

One lesson to draw from here is holding your kids accountable for their actions. This worked out well in the end but may not be so for someone else. But the message was passed.

CONCLUSION:

This movie would have been a whole lot better than it turned out to be. The acting I would say is one of the factors that affected it! There was no chemistry between the lead actors – friends or foe. There were some very unrealistic scenes like the one where Amara asked Jason’s friend  to leave the house. That could have been done differently. Comedy or not, that didn’t make sense. Overall, this is a movie to consider for lack of a better choice or for the love of one or more of the actors. Somewhat interesting, it didn’t do it for me as much as I had hoped.

VERDICT: 4.8/10

I watched half way and dumped it. Clinton was just too relaxed in this movie. No emotions at all
