Story & script by Miriam Ogbonna (also starring as Ijeoma ‘IJ’), this film is directed by Oduah Chigozie and Executively produced by Masta Shot Film Production. With a runtime of 1hour 42minutes, this drama is currently streaming on Nollyfamily YouTube channel.
SYNOPSIS: (MAY contain spoilers)
When his wife Nancy (Nadia Buari) is diagnosed with end stage CKD – Chronic Kidney Disease, Alex (Frederick Leonard) would do anything within his power to find the surgery fee of 24million naira which his car wash job cannot avail him. The questions begging for answers, will he find the money and even if he does, will Nancy survive?
MY TAKE:
Yet again another project that would have turned out amazing had ample time been given to developing or fine tuning the plot. While the story isn’t new, the casting here is apt – loved the pairing of FL & NB. It made for believability. However, the entire plot put together was not solid.
Although the first and second acts of the movie felt shallow where you wonder what is going on, nevertheless, the third act managed to somewhat save the day.
Lesson:
This movie succeeded in highlighting the fact that you must not necessarily soil your hands in a bid to saving a loved one when you can’t afford hospital bills. That was really good as many Nollywood films past and present tend to often pass a message where people end up in pröstitution, human träfficking including blööd money acts as an excuse to save their relatives.
Observation/Questions:
1. What connection did the NYSC uniforms Nancy and her friend IJ wore have with the story? To me, that was as irrelevant as irrelevant can be. In fact, even if it was relevant, the ladies didn’t look the part either. No offence!
2. Ijeoma’s attitude towards Nancy and her husband at the start of the film was irksome! No friend acts exactly that way. If they do, Miriam Ogbonna didn’t interpret it accurately. She overdid it. No disrespect to anyone!
3. I loved the theme song in the end. I was hoping to get the name of the singer as the lyrics and voice were really good but alas, didn’t see the singer’s name in the end credits. Or did I miss it? Someone please help!
4. Alex made his decision and took responsibility for it, damning the consequences. But did this mean he loved Nancy any less? Hmmmmm…
5. The car wash setting didn’t really fly with the story too.
6. The couple looked too fresh for their predicament. Skin skinning like milk and their living condition didn’t particularly match up their poverty status they wanted us to believe. A little more costuming would have done the trick.
7. The title isn’t befitting of the movie. It distracts from the story as I had initially thought it was just about love, heartbreak and reconciliation. But watching it, it’s different.
There’s more but let’s just leave it here.
Conclusively, it was a good watch but could have been better in more ways than one. The lead actors were good. Can’t say the same for the supporting actors though; well except for Alex’s supposed friend Godwin (played by Emeka Darlington).
Overall, I loved the lesson of faith and hope against hope as well as the undying unconditional love of a husband towards his wife as the later part became inspiring. This would have been more captivating, intriguing, engaging and interesting if more attention had been paid to details.
Verdict: 3.8/10
